Tunnel Vision (July 11)

Yesterday, while American eyes were on Athens and Brussels - as far as overseas news is concerned -  in a town named Ufa in central Russia, the leaders of the BRICS countries (Russia, China, India, Brazil and South Africa) were meeting those of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO),  that gathers Russia and China with the countries known collectively as the Stans - Kirgistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Kazakstan - was adding Pakistan and India to its number, and taking the occasion to review with the President of Iran the progress of its nuclear talks with the P5+1.

  1. I hope you can take an interest in the UK Labour Party leadership contest. A noted left winger Jeremy Corvyn has sprung into the lead to the consternation of the capitalist media and Blairite Labour types. The Tory government is extremist and had thought it could rely on Labour electing another useless Miliband type leader. A man David Cameron smirked across at in the House of Commons after Miliband had won the Labour leadership contest in September and referred to him as Mr Nobody. The Tories we're delighted. Miliband had clear communication problems and couldn't inspire an empty bag. The Tories and the capitalist class in the UK have no foresight. They thought they could do exactly what they wanted without there being any reaction. They have a loyal police and pet dog media and the State in their hands. The Labour Party as it stands has become irrelevant. It was offering no opposition to the Tory government in parliament and offering no leadership and hope to the population at large. We were heading down the path to a fascist society. History can often turn up social surprises at just the right time. It has now turned up with a bang. Jeremy Corbyn offers hope to millions of people, he is a Labour leader in the offing. He is on the side of Palestine. You will find him a most agreeable political leader. It's a miracle. No one in their wildest dreams could have thought this one up six or seven weeks ago. That's his history works. It contains all the social forces and economic and political and ideological machinery. Jeremy Corbyn is a product of those forces. The situation with Greece and America's endless warmongering (backed up by its most reliable UK partner) and the sense of hopelessness that is spreading everywhere has created this political time bomb in the UK. The Scottish situation is part of this too. Elijah P. Traven.
